Carver Thaxton Bussey, 93, of Huntsville, Ala., father of Tricia Wilson of Union City, died Oct. 14, 2009, in Alabama. Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Huntsville First Baptist Church on Governors Drive. Drs. David Hull and Ralph Langley will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 2-3 p.m. Saturday. Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville is assisting the family. The family requests that memorials be made to CASA, 701 Andrew Jackson Way, Huntsville, AL 35801; Huntsville Assistance Program, 406 Governors Drive, Huntsville, AL 35801; or the charity of the donorÆs choice. He was born in Hartsville, S.C., July 22, 1916, son of the late Rev. Patrick Henry and Helen (Peak) Bussey. He graduated from The Citadel in 1938 and was commissioned in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he became a flight instructor during pre-war preparations. This was the beginning of a 25-year career as an Air Force pilot, which included an assignment as a bomber pilot in World War II. While in the Air Force, he earned a masterÆs degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1962, after retiring from the Air Force, he opened Republic Aviation in Huntsville and became active in the community. He was a charter member of the Metro Kiwanis Club, serving twice as president. He was a longtime member of Huntsville First Baptist Church and the Langley Sunday School Class and was also a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer for many years. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Lesemann) Bussey. He is also survived by his wife, Madelyn (Poteat) Bussey; two other daughters and three sons-in-law, Ann and Larry Thompson of Huntsville, Susan and Richard Hardesty of LaceyÆs Spring, Ala., and Rick Wilson of Union City; his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Lexie and Mike Pejnovic of Panama City, Fla.; three granddaughters and the husband of two of them, Sunni Thompson of Atlanta, Avery and Rodney Cearley of Nashville and Kate and Justin Baxter of Columbia, S.C.; his grandson and his wife, Patrick and Laurie Thompson of Huntsville; his brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. William Royall and Barbara Bussey of Wilson, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tags: 1938
