C. Ray Floyd, Jr. , 64 of Brooklyn , New York passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 surrounded by family. Ray was born January 25, 1954, at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Queens, New York to Chester Ray Floyd Sr. and Carrie (Harrell) Floyd . He graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School in Brooklyn, New York, where he is immortalized on their wall of fame/honor for his basketball accomplishments in 1972. On August 18, 1973, Ray married the love of his life, Sharon Joshua of Brooklyn, New York. He earned is first degree from Staten Island Community College in 1976. Ray served in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1976 1988. While serving in the United States Air Force as a Communications Specialist, he played intramural basketball on the teams of the units he was assigned to, winning numerous awards and recognitions. He continued his education earning degrees from the Community College of the Air Force and The Citadel The Military College of South Carolina in 1987. Ray was later employed by the Department of the Navy, United States of America until he retired in 2008. He enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, cooking, barbecuing, drawing, science and technology. Ray was an avid sports fan who loved to play and watch basketball. His favorite teams included the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and the New York Yankees. Ray spent his later years with family, friends, traveling and following politics. Ray is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon; his two children Antoine Ray Floyd and Sha-ron Floyd-Robbins; his favorite granddaughter Shaquielle Celeste Robbins; his cousin Gertrude (Tinkie) Duncan, her children, Barry, Robert, Bradley and Richard; and a multitude of sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. The Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin with Rev. Kaiser Lewis as Officiant. The interment will take place in Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
