Burlington A. Fretwell Newberry, SC- Burlington Alexander Burly Fretwell, 83, of 456 Hillbrook Lane, died Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Charles Burlington and Julia Alexander Fretwell and was the husband of Marjorie Chandler Fretwell. He was a former co-owner and officer of Spartan Grain. He was a 1940 graduate of The Citadel and was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Newberry where he was a lay reader and a vestryman for many years. Mr. Fretwell was a member of the Historic Flat Rock Association, was an avid photographer, and was an antique car enthusiast. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Roslyn Chandler Fretwell of Houston, TX; two sons, Burlington Alexander Fretwell, Jr. and his wife Joanne of Amery, WI, and Stuart Linthicum Fretwell of Greenville, SC; a brother, Frank Fretwell of Moore, SC; a granddaughter, Julie Christine Fretwell of LaCrosse, WI; and a grandson, Jeffrey Alexander Fretwell of Chatham, VA. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Burlington A. Fretwell Scholarship Fund, c/o The Citadel, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409.
