Dr. Bruce Michael Stapleton, 68, formerly of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday at his residence in Carlsbad, Calif. Dr. Stapleton was born on April 24, 1944, in Ashland. He is a 1966 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and a 1970 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. After serving his residency at the University of Cincinnati, he practiced internal medicine in Ashland until his retirement in 1999. During his medical career, Dr. Stapleton served in various capacities including Chief of Medicine and Assistant Medical Director at King¹s Daughters Medical Center, medical director of Hospice and as medical director of the Boyd County FIVCO District Health Department. Dr. Stapleton was preceded in death by his parents, O. Bruce Stapleton Jr. and Dolores Richardson Stapleton. He is survived by sisters, Sallie Stapleton Alexander of Stuart, Fla., and Susie Stapleton Points of Pinehurst, N.C.; a daughter, Mary Stapleton Davy of Encinitas, Calif., and her children Jack and Luke; a son, John Stapleton of Richmond, Va., and his children Fiona and Riley; and a stepson, Tyler Harbour of Philadelphia, Pa., and his children, Charlie and Lachlan. Visitation will be held at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue on Monday, Nov. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. A private funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday.
