Bobby J. Hitt, 82, resident of Westover, SC, widower of Betty McIver Hitt, died October 19, 2014 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born May 12, 1932, in Clinton, he was a son of the late Floyd Eugene and Loree Simmons Hitt. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, was a 1954 graduate of The Citadel, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and held an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Piedmont Technical College. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. Mr. Hitt was retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections, having served as a Captain at Leath Correctional Facility. Upon retirement, Bobby worked at the Greenwood County Recycle Center on Deadfall Road. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and was a member of the Young at Heart Group of the church, the Mathews Lions Club and the American Legion Post No. 20. Surviving are three daughters, Katherine “Kathy” Dixon of Kingsland, GA, Nancy (Gary) Heinz of Charleston, SC, and Cynthia “Cindy” Hitt of Greenwood and McCormick; three grandchildren, Tamalyn (Rhian) Resnick, Hampton Dixon and Austin Heinz; and three great-grandchildren, Kaelyn Resnick, Mackenzie Resnick and Carter Resnick. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carl Hunsucker, Rev. Ryan Spurrier and Rev. Dan Smyth officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will be in the Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Jerry Bedenbaugh,Timmy Knowlton, Barry Mayfield and Matt Shannon. Honorary escort will be members of the Mathews Lions Club.
