Bobby Grover Wertz, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 8, 2010, Bobby Grover Wertz, husband of Gloria Wilkins Wertz. Residence, Charleston, SC. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services, Saturday, June 12, 2010 at eleven o’clock at James Island Baptist Church. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. All are invited to visit with the family following the interment at Bobby and Gloria’s home. Mr. Wertz was born January 9, 1936, in Augusta, GA, the son of the late Benjamin Grover Wertz and Irene Carter Wertz. He was a graduate of Murray Vocational High School in 1954 and The Citadel in 1975 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Wertz was employed as an Engineer with the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 36 years. He served in the United States Army. He was a strong member of his family from a young age, a central figure on whom the family could always depend. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as cooking, fishing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and watching The Citadel baseball team. Bobby was a beloved brother, husband and father and an inspiration to many. He is survived by his wife Gloria of 51 years; four children: Alan Wertz and his wife Peggy, Jennifer Hendricks and her husband Ralph, Andrew Wertz and his wife LeAnn, and David Wertz and his wife Angela; four sisters: Henrietta Hartline, Helen Jordan, Pat Stelling and Judy Benton; seven grandchildren: Meg Derrick Ivey, Katy Mooney, McEachern Hendricks, Charlotte Wertz, Lawton Hendricks, Carter Wertz, and Cooper Wertz; and two great grandchildren: James Ivey and Ethan Mooney. He is predeceased by his brother Donnie Wertz.
