Benjamin Davis Walker, age 87, of Marietta, GA, passed away on April 16, 2012. He was the son of the late John Simeon Walker and Agnes McCollum Walker MacKenzie,. Davis was born in Marietta on January 26, 1925 in the family home on Whitlock Avenue. He graduated from Marietta High School and was a member of the class of 1942. Following his graduation from MHS, he enrolled at the Citadel in Charleston, SC. His education there was interrupted when he was called for active duty in the US Army where he served on the European front during World War II. He then returned to the Citadel and graduated in the class of 1949. He was always proud to wear the Citadel ring. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Joanne Carrington Walker; sons and daughters-in-law, Rob and Pam, Bill and Pam, Ben and Kimberly, Craig and Cameron; 9 grandchildren, Sarah Baker (Jason), Emily, Austin, Will, Mackenzie, Morgan, Craig Jr., Hunter, and Cameron Perry; 2 great-grandsons, Davis and James; nieces and nephew, Susan McDaniel, Patricia Wilson (Eddie), and Johnny Walker (Kimberly). He was predeceased by his brother, Johnny Mac. Davis spent his professional career as a men’s clothier at Johnny Walker Inc., the family business, where he had the opportunity to touch the lives of many Cobb County residents. He was the longest serving member of the Marietta Kiwanis Club with 61 years perfect attendance and was a past president of the club. He was an Eagle Scout. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church where he had served as a member of the Vestry, Senior Warden, and usher. Davis had many passions in life but his top two were his family and friends. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by people he cared about, whether at home with his wife, sons and their families, on the golf course, around the poker table, fishing in the surf, or socializing with friends. He had a reputation for always being the last person to leave a party. He just loved people. A Funeral Service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Thursday, April 19 at 2:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service with Rev. Roger Allen officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 18 from 5 to 7pm at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. James Episcopal Church or the Marietta Kiwanis Foundation. The family wishes to express their deep appreciate to their cousin, Patricia, who cared for Davis over the past 18 months. She provided loving attention and care that greatly improved the quality of his life. Tags: 1949
