Gainesville Dr. August C. AC Hofmeister, 79, died April 17, 2005, at Shands at AGH, Gainesville. He lived in Gainesville since 1988, coming from Port St. Lucie. Before retirement in 1987, he was a physician in the Port St. Lucie area. He also had a practice in Sewickley, Pa., for more than 23 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. He attended the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and from the Medical College of the State of South Carolina. He was a former commodore of the Saints and Sinners Yacht Club, Port St. Lucie, and a member of the Gainesville Country Club. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Emmy Hofmeister; daughters, Linda Czerwinski, BeBe Cranford and Susan Hofmeister; and two grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Unit Donation Fund, attn. Sheriff Stephen M. Oelrich, 2621 S.E. Hawthorne Road, Gainesville, FL 32641.
