Arthur C. Baxter of Marietta, Ga. died on March 6, 2010, at A.G. Rhodes Cobb, Nursing Home. A long time resident of Atlanta, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia, four children – Elizabeth B. Owens, Charles Baxter, Nancy Harris and William Baxter, sister Dorothy Sowerby, seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He was born in Cranston, RI. on August 24, 1924. He graduated from the Citadel, received his MBA from the Harvard Business School and the Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He was in the U.S. Army for 3 1/2 years during WWII. He retired from Wachovia Corporation as Executive Vice President in 1989. He was very active in civil affairs and his main interests were the Atlanta Community Foundation, U.S.O. Atlanta, and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. His body was donated to Emory University School of Medicine. At the time of his death he was an active member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church for 50 plus years, where he served as Deacon. He was also a member of the Capital City Club. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 11th, at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to A.G.
