JONES, Allan Allan Meredith Merry Jones of Summerville, SC, died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Monday, September 3, 2007 at eleven o’clock with burial in the churchyard. The Reverend Michael R. Lumpkin will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at Parks Funeral Home from six until eight o’clock. Mr. Jones was born March 14, 1926 in Walterboro, SC, the son of Edward Meredith Jones and Ethel Croskeys Fripp Jones. He was a graduate of Summerville High School and the Citadel. He was an US Army Air Force Veteran of World War II. He retired in 1987 as owner-dealer of the E.M. Jones Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Company, a business founded by his father in 1935. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where he had served on its vestry and was a past president of the Summerville Rotary Club. His interests included hunting, fishing and many sports. He was elected to the Summerville High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991. He was an expert fruit and vegetable gardener and excelled at grafting camellias. Survivors include his wife, Florence Wattles Hartz Jones, one daughter, Cheri Jones Allen and husband Chipper Allen, two sons, Edward Meredith Jones II, Neyle D. Jones and wife Laura and one sister, Ann Hampton all of Summerville, SC; four stepsons, William Hartz, Steve Hartz, Thomas Hartz and Michael Hartz. He leaves eight grandchildren, Chuck Jones, Julie Jones Monahan, Robertson Allen II, Grier Allen, Rachel Jones Sine, Elizabeth Jones, Edward M. Jones III, and Caroline Jones; four great-grandchildren, one niece, Ann LaVecchia and one nephew, Anthony Hampton. His first wife, Helen McDougal Jones, predeceased him.
