Alfred “Al” Chaplowe passed on to eternal life August 28, 2010 surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 2, 1931 in West Haven, Conn., the son of the late Isadore and Sophie Chaplowe. Al was predeceased by both of his sisters, Phyllis Greenfield and Ruth Shay. Al was a proud graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1953, going on to serve 4 years in the Air Force before leaving to become a fifth grade teacher in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After retiring teaching he moved to Maine and returned to the National Park Service as a Ranger, completing 19 years. Al was a member of The Masons, The Shriners, The American Legion. Al is survived by his wife, “”the love of his life”” Joyce, of Franklin, Maine; two daughters, Lynn Chaplowe of Myrtle Beach and Sharon Merchant of West Columbia; and two grandchildren, Dustin Merchant and Staci Collum. He also leaves a brother, Lewis Chaplowe and his wife, Billie; and many nieces, nephews and friends. If Heaven has a band he’s already playing his Tenor Sax. March on in Peace. Tags: 1953
