Alexander (Bobenchik) Benson, 80, of Middletown, NJ, passed away surrounded by his family after a 17 year battle with Parkinson’s on October 16, 2019.
Alex is survived by his wife Linda of 57 years, son Chris Benson, (Linda), daughter Lyn Rutkoski (Daniel) and his granddaughter Alexandra Benson.
Alex spent most of his life living in Middletown, NJ where he raised his family. He began his career with the Carteret Bank and Trust company where he rose to be president. Following his banking career he worked for the government, first for the FDIC and later as a medical fraud examiner. But the job he loved most was being an investigator for the US Attorney’s Office out of Newark, NJ. He retired from that job in 2010.
Alex always loved the Charleston area, having a summer house on Kiawah Island and later Wild Dunes. He always kept a special place in his heart for his beloved Citadel. Half of his wardrobe could clearly demonstrate that at any time. He was an avid college football follower, NY Giants season ticket holder, and vodka connoisseur. He loved to support the UVa Cavaliers in any sport and was overjoyed when they took the Sweet Sixteen title this year.
