K Co Commander used this sword. It was his wish that this be passed on to K Co Commander; Colonel Motely died July 20, 2020.

Obituary: He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army, ending his military career in 1983. Motley was a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served two tours of duty. He received the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Joint and the Army Meritorious medals, a Purple Heart, the Air Medals, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army General Staff, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Department of Defense Identification Badges. Motley was an Army Ranger, senior parachutist and Pathfinder and was a graduate of the National War College and the Command and General Staff College. He earned a Master of Arts degree in international relations from Florida State University and a Ph.D. degree in world politics from the Catholic University of America. He was a senior fellow at the National Defense University and with the Atlantic Council of the United States. After retirement Motley worked with a number of Washington, DC defense-related organizations, and became an internationally known author, lecturer, and consultant specializing in the areas of counter-terrorism, low-intensity conflict, and intelligence. He was a member of the Retired Officers' Association, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the York Scottish Rite and the Gideons International. He wa a member of Mount Airy Baptist Church and the author of Spiritual Warfare: A Personal Journey. Motley was a life member of The Citadel Alumni Association
