Beginning his career in life insurance in 1973, he has served in various field and home office positions including president and CEO of Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Co. and president of the Enston Home Foundation. He supported his alma mater by serving the Department of Business Advisory Board (1996) and the School of Business, Board of Directors (2002-2003).
