Board of Visitors:  Elected to The Citadel Board of Visitors (2019-2025).  Vice-Chair BOV Legal Committee; member Operations and Risk Management Committee and Strategy, Vision and Governance Committee; At request of an alumnus introduced and sponsored a policy for the award of a Posthumous Bachelors Degree for Alumni who meet the criteria (LTC George McMillian ‘38 Award); established and initially funded Chaplain’s Office Operational Endowment Fund to assist with operational expenses and counseling services; Opposed and worked to repeal the Sophomore Shuffle; Sponsored amendments to the College Regulations to restore the BOV as the policy making and oversight body in accordance with the Citadel enabling statute.  (Search Web for SC Legislative Audit Council Report The Citadel 2017 or call me.)

MILITARY SERVICE:  Army, Captain, active duty May 1971 to Feb. 1974; reserve duty; Army Commendation Medal; “Honorary Trooper” 1st Rgt. (separate) 1st Cavalry Division.  Top 10% Army Fort Bragg Summer Camp 1970.

MEMBERSHIPS & OFFICES HELD:  SC Bar Association and International Municipal Lawyers Association;  Seven Oaks Youth League Baseball Board; Chair,  Personnel Committee First Baptist Irmo; former Chair, Town of Irmo Planning Commission; former Mayor, Town of Irmo; member Masonic Order;  Vice-Chair 1140 Ocean Blvd Property Regime.

PERSONAL:  I am a Christian.  My moral code:  the Ten Commandants and The Citadel Honor Code; Commissioned, graduated and married (Cynthia, 53 years, Summerall Chapel) on 29 May 1971.  First Family member to attend The Citadel – Thomas J. Lyon Class of 1904 from Abbeville Co. SC.  Involved in church and community service activities.  Coached youth league baseball. Two sons, youngest graduated from The Citadel in 2004. Strongly believe in our Alma Mater, “Peace and Honor, God and Country, We will fight for Thee…” Attended The Citadel with two high school classmates — all three of us graduated on time.   Closest friends are Classmates and Citadel Alumni.

CANDIDATE’S STATEMENT:  I will: Preserve The Citadel’s history, heritage, traditions and customs; Reverse cultural shift from a Military College to a quasi-military university; Support strong undergraduate academic programs; Return to Family style mess by dividing the Corps into two components that would stand formation and march to the mess hall until the mess hall can be upgraded; Contain tuition and fees; Deal with our athletic programs so that we can be competitive (NIL/Transfer Portal): Support a strong CAA.  We must honor our heritage and preserve The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina for future generations of Cadets.
