Jerry Douglas Lane, 82, of San Antonio, passed away unexpectedly in his home in San Antonio, Texas on March 26th, 2022. He was born on February 11th, 1940 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Douglas Harvey Lane and Lena Dalphene Lane, both deceased. Jerry lived the life of an Army child, moving often and making new friends wherever he went. Upon finishing High School, he attended The Citadel Military College in Charleston, SC. After graduation, Jerry enlisted almost immediately for service in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War, where he served multiple tours with distinction earning a Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and a Purple Heart before being sent home to his young family and honorably discharged from service. In 1973, Jerry joined the Army Reserves and was soon a member of the 12th Special Forces Group and subsequently the Commanding Officer for that same group before retiring in 1981. During his time in the Reserves, Jerry became quite the able instructor for firearms of all types as well as defensive tactics. He instructed numerous companies and organizations including the Dallas Police Department, Smith Wesson, Heckler Koch, Glock amongst others as well as his own company OffShoots Training institute. All told, Jerry trained thousands in law enforcement of all levels and in multiple countries, as well as numerous civilians. Later in his life, he became a Probation Officer for Bexar County where his empathy and belief in the human spirit allowed him to help his probationers as well as his fellow officers. Jerry is survived by his children Lindsey Lane and her partner Drew Schilling, Shawn Lane and his wife Heather, Chandler Lane and her partner David Fielder, and his youngest Chase Lane, as well as a newly found son Kevin Wagner and his wife Shannon. He is deeply missed by them all. He is also survived by his Grandchildren, Wil Seiffert, Austin Seiffert, Gracelyn Seiffert and Faye Fielder. Joan Williams, Jerry’s younger sister, also survives him with her husband Clancy and children Jody and Debbie. On Monday, April 18th at 9:15 AM, Jerry will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery amongst his brothers and sisters of the armed forces per his wishes. His love of this country was only matched by his love for his family. If you ever met him, truly met him, he definitely left an impression on you of that I am certain. He loved to laugh and loved to tell stories and he wore his heart on his sleeve. He also did not say “goodbye”, instead, he said “see ya” as he always knew he would see you again. See ya, dad. We love you.
