Lieutenant Colonel John N Crawford (US Airforce retired) died at age 84 on April 4th, 2022. John was born in Alabama and grew up in Chattanooga, TN. He was a graduate of the McCallie School and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. After college John joined the Air Force and was trained as a navigator. John had an amazing 20 year career in the USAF. He flew to 95 countries, had assignments as a heavy transport navigator, and was a Vietnam Veteran. John had the honor of being assigned to Andrews Airforce Base 89th squadron navigating Air Force 2. There he flew Congressman, Senators, Vice Presidents, and other prominent figures around the world. After retiring in 1980 John earned his Master’s degree in History from the Citadel and taught at Trident Technical College. He loved WWII History, the Lady Vols, books, DVD’s, pawn shops, and most of all entertaining family and friends with remarkable and hilarious stories from his extraordinary life. John is survived by his loving wife Diana, 3 children Daniel, Jenny, and John, and 3 grandchildren. A private family graveside service will be held with full military honors at Beaufort National Cemetery. Arrangements by Palmetto Cremation Society.
