Reluctantly leaving behind family and friends, Morris Andrew ‘Andy’ Murphy, of Charleston, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021. His Graveside Service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, November 4, 2021, at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 60 Huguenin Avenue. Born at ‘Old Roper’ in Charleston, SC on November 5, 1938, Andy fortunately lived long enough to accomplish the goals he set for himself. Advised at an early age by family members to ‘go as far as you can’, Andy graduated from Sacred Heart, Bishop England High School, The Citadel with a BS degree, University of Virginia with an MA degree and the University of South Carolina with an MUS degree. Andy worked for 25 years in Software Development for the Burroughs Corporation (after a merger with Sperry Univac in 1989, Burroughs became Unisys Corporation), earning a series of promotions to offices in Atlanta, Miami and Radnor, Pennsylvania. After early retirement, Andy joined the Charleston County public library system, where he worked his way into management. Andy took up Photography as a hobby and developed the skills to compete professionally in getting his pictures published. But his real passion, which probably helped to extend his life, was walking interspersed with a couple of minutes of running to get the heart rate up. Arrangements by James A. McAlister, Inc.
