Dave was the finest soldier I ever knew. He epitomized the love of service, and the desire to lead. The world lost a great man who believed in his calling, and who given the chance could have achieved the highest level of leadership in all of the armed services. We loved his wife, and hope she and her children have been able to find the happiness Dave gave up for his country. Gil & Sue Batton, former Captain, Army.
David is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Section 37, Grave 3391. He is not listed in the VA registry for Arlington, but by contacting Arlington directly he is in fact listed. The last of Sheboygan’s finest is now found. Steve Conto, Menasha, WI, [email protected].
David was the cousin of my father, John Widder. I never had the honor to meet him but his great sacrifice to our country lives on through the stories I hear about from my Dad and family. It is an honor to have a connection to David and to just have the knowledge of his life and the sacrifice he gave. He will always be remembered.
David was the only child of Wisconsin residents John and Betty Widder. David Widder was a successful young man, both scholastically and in sports. He left Wisconsin to attend the Citadel, the military college of South Carolina, became a Green Beret officer and went on serve and die in Vietnam. God rest his soul. F.E.R.
