Richard E. Bastin of Jupiter, Florida, passed into eternal life on July 5, 2026, at the age of 82. Rick was born on December 1, 1943, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Ernest and Ruth Bastin. A few years later, the family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, where Rick grew up and became a member of the inaugural graduating class of Forest Hill High School.

Following high school, Rick attended The Citadel, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for discipline, honor, service, and hard work. He later earned his MBA from Emory University before serving his country in the United States Army. During his military service, Rick met Mary Lee, and the two married and began a partnership that would span 58 wonderful years.

After his discharge from the Army, Rick and Mary Lee returned to Florida, where he built a successful career in the automobile business. For nearly 40 years, Rick was a respected and accomplished car dealer. Yet, for all of his professional success, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband and loving father to his son, Brian, and daughter, Wendy.

Rick cherished time with his family and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved playing golf, fishing, and cheering on the Miami Dolphins. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with the people he loved.

Rick’s life was one of service, hard work, family, and lasting friendships. He will be remembered for his dedication to those around him, his love of family, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.

A service celebrating Rick’s life was held on July 13 at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Lee; his son, Brian (Mindy), his daughter, Wendy (Steve), his grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, and Amber, sister Sherry (Charles), and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and step grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
