David K. “Robby” Robson, Jr., 76, of Fleming Island, Fla., passed away suddenly Monday, February 17, 2020 in Palatka.
Robby was born in Philadelphia, PA and was a resident of Fleming Island for nearly 30 years after his career in the U. S. Air Force sent Robby to numerous air bases and communities throughout the U.S. and Asia. Robby graduated from Ridley Township High School, located southwest of Philadelphia, in 1961; received his Bachelor’s degree from The Citadel in 1965; earned his Master’s in Public Administration from Western Michigan University in 1978; and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1992 after 27 years of dedicated service, earning the rank of Colonel.
Robby enjoyed a variety of hobbies over the years. There were annual trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with family and friends for deer hunting, as well as time spent fishing, sprint car racing, and skeet shooting. He was a longtime member of the Prospect Lodge No. 578 of Free & Accepted Masons, like his father before him; and a member of the Palatka Skeet Club, serving as the Secretary/Treasurer for many years.
Anyone who knew Robby knew him as “the guy who can fix anything”—it may have required countless hours and a steady stream of verbal expressions so colorful and fierce it would make the saltiest sailor blush, but there was almost nothing with a motor that he could not repair or rebuild from the ground up if needed, and even most electrical or plumbing challenges could be bested.
Robby was preceded in death by his parents, David Karr Robson, Sr. and Eleanor (Denn) of Prospect Park, PA; and his brother Bruce H. Robson of Littleton, CO in December 2019.
Surviving are twin sons, David K. Robson, III (Jennifer Ramirez Robson) and Paul Robson (Marlo DeLange); a daughter, Linda Robson (Geoff Puett), all residing in the Seattle area; and grandchildren, Kevin and Joanne.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later time due to restriction imposed as a result of the COVID-19 virus pandemic. Please check the Masters Funeral Home of Palatka website at www.themastersfuneralhomes.com for updates. A final inurnment ceremony with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Robby and in honor of his faithful Golden Retriever companion, Nugget, to the Clay County Humane Society at clayhumane.org. Messages of encouragement or sympathy may be expressed in his online guestbook at www.themastersfuneralhomes.com.
Masters Funeral Home of Palatka is charge of arrangements.
