Dana Duane Gaskins, 76, of Mountain Rest, South Carolina passed away on 4/25/2026.
He was born to Gervase and Ruth Gaskins, on June 5, 1949, in Charleston, SC. Dana graduated from St. Andrews High School of Charleston, SC in 1967 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Citadel in 1974.
He married Jane Taylor in 1973, and they lived together in Charleston for thirty years before relocating to Mt. Rest. He is survived by his sons – John Gaskins, of Charleston and David (April) Gaskins of Charleston and his brother – Dr. Ronald (Beverly) Gaskins, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Joshua, Faith, Ryker and Jackson, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Gaskins in 2022, his son, Michael in 2020, his parents, Gervase and Ruth Gaskins, his brother, Rodney Gaskins and his sister, Priscilla Hogan.
He was a loving husband and father. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was injured before returning home. After his return, he attended the Citadel Military College of South Carolina. After graduation, he worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Civil Engineer before finishing his career at NAVFAC as an Environmental Engineer.
In his younger years, he was an avid runner and completed many races including the Cooper Run Bridge run on multiple occasions. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed reading particularly horror books (Stephen King), and he played many a game of Words with Friends with his sister-in-law.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, May 14, 2026, prior to the service, at Davenport Funeral Home.
