John Brandon Brantwood Trussell III, 82, of Hopkins, South Carolina, passed away April 7, 2026.
Born November 30, 1943, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, John was the son of John Brandon Brantwood Trussell Jr. and Marguerite Allison Trussell. He was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1965, and went on to serve the people of South Carolina at the Farm Bureau, Seibels Bruce and as Director of the Insurance Reserve Fund for the State of South Carolina.
John was a devoted husband to Kathleen Duffy Trussell and a loving father to Allison, Philip (MaryAlice) and Jay Trussell. He is also survived by his brother, Duncan B. Trussell (Audrey), and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Duffy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jamie Trussell.
A man of steady faith, John was a member of Mill Creek United Methodist Church. He found great joy in sailing and boat building, interests that reflected both his skilled hands and his love of the water. He also had great love for his pets and working with his labs and spaniels. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his public service, his dry sense of humor, and the quiet strength and character he brought to those who knew him.
A family graveside service will be held April 10 at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. Visitation to follow.
