Gordon H. Hess, 93, of Fort Myers, FL, died Tuesday January 2, 2018 peacefully at home after a long illness. Gordon was a long time resident of Buffalo, NY and moved to Fort Myers in 1986 after he retired. He attended The Citadel Military College and then served in the army as a sergeant in the Leyte invasion of WWII. He as a first scout in the 96th division and earned a Bronze Star. He returned home and attended, University of Buffalo earning a Business Administration degree. He started his business career as a salesman at Frontier Alkali Corporation and worked up to President. He was a member of Queen City Lodge #358, Buffalo Consistory, Ismalia Shrine, the NY State Laundry and Dry Cleaners Association and the Transit Valley Country Club. He was an avid golfer and had two “holes in one”. He attended The Chapel in Buffalo and the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers. Gordon is survived by his wife of 46 years, Brenda, and children Linda (AI) Flessel, Gary (Joan), Richard (Monica), Beth (Paul) Holmwood, Andrew (Stacia) Beimler and 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by daughter Sharon.
The family of Gordon wish to thank the many Health Care Aides and Nurses of the VA, Hope Hospice and Accu-care, their expertise and kindness was much appreciated. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 2nd at 11:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church. Memorial gifts may be sent to Hope Hospice or Zion Lutheran Church.
