Stanley James Amos, 69, passed away on Wednesday evening, November 15, 2017, at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC, after a lengthy illness. He was born on November 19, 1947, in Rutherfordton, NC, to Joseph Clyde and Mae Elizabeth Amos.
Stan grew up in Spartanburg, SC, and graduated from Dorman High School in 1966. After high school he attended the Citadel for one year prior to transferring to the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC, where he earned his BS, Science and Mathematics and MEd degrees in 1971 and 1980, respectively. He served as a teacher, principal, coach and friend to many students during his tenure as an educator for over twenty years and was owner/operator of Amos Textiles for over twelve years in both Clarendon and Sumter Counties. During his retirement he established a hobby farm where his children, grandchildren and relatives could enjoy visiting and learning all about growing plants, working with animals and driving his tractor.
Stan is survived by his wife, Louise Hodge Amos of Batesburg, SC, his children, Renne (Tracy Orner), Kearri (Terry Hodge), JerryAn Amos, and Mackey (Hailey) Amos; his siblings, Dianne (Don Johnson), Randy, Tony, and Larry Amos; his grandchildren, Nathan and Evan Orner, Brice Hodge, Isaiah, Brenly, Makena, Adyson, and Avyrie Amos; and many other loving relatives.
His funeral will be held at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 21, 515 Miller Road, Sumter, SC. The family will greet friends from 10:30-11:00; and celebrate his life with a memorial service from 11:00 – 12:00. Interment of his ashes will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Bloomville Highway in Manning, SC. The family will receive friends and relatives at their home in Batesburg.
