James Stephen Davies, born in Cleveland, OH, April 20, 1944, beheld his Savior face to face (Psalm 17:15) on December 9, 2016. Jim continued to enjoy the simple pleasures of life and a great peace for the 13 years after his initial prostate surgery with the excellent treatment provided by University Hospital and OSU, guided by our Great Physician. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Esther Bippert Davies and Samuel Floyd Davies of Gladwynn, PA and granddaughter Zion Hope Davies of Cleveland, TN. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Eaddy Davies of Delaware, OH; children, Joseph and Renee Davies of Delaware, OH, Matthew and Yaunette Davies of Cleveland, TN, Daniel Davies of Phoenix, AZ; and grandchildren, Samuel, Daniel and Jessica of Delaware, OH, Elleise, Steele, Grey, Stone, Keaton, Levi, and Jude of Cleveland, TN; also his sister, Sally Tumilty of Naperville, IL; and sister in-law and brother in-law, Doris and Timothy O’Brien of Summerville, SC. He will also be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, and innumerable friends and church family. Jim attended Culver Military Academy and graduated from Shaler High School in Pittsburgh, PA, where he served as class president and played varsity basketball and baseball. In 1966 he graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, SC, where he met his bride on a blind date. Within three months they became engaged and celebrated 50 years of marriage on October 8, 2016. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. Throughout his career in sales with Westinghouse Electric Corp. and ABB he enjoyed the relationships developed with customers who became lifelong friends. He was an avid golfer, but in his later years had more joy looking for golfballs with his grandchildren. His love of sports included the Cleveland Browns, the Cavs, and the Cleveland Indians, remaining a fan throughout both winning and losing seasons. Having the pleasure of attending the 1954 and 1997 Cleveland World Series, he was finally able to see the Cleveland Indians go to another World Series. Yet greater pleasure came from coaching little league and watching his sons and grandchildren play soccer, basketball and baseball. As those close to him knew, his assets of exuberance coupled with his competitive nature sometimes became an issue. Excellent mathematical skills were applied to keeping statistics in sports and politics as well as in his sales position. He loved music and movies with happy endings, always identifying actors by their voices. He enjoyed many adventures throughout the world with his wife and on business trips, but his greatest vacations were the traditional yearly vacations with family to Hilton Head, Pawleys Island, and Phoenix. Jim was active in neighborhood Bible Studies through the Chapel in Akron, OH and Grace Church in Powell, OH. He especially enjoyed working with children in the nursery and ESL. Perhaps his greatest legacy is his love of children and his desire that all would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The first to admit to his own imperfections, he was most thankful for His Savior who sacrificed His life that he might have eternal life. A celebration of his life will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday December 13, 2016 at GRACE POWELL CHURCH, 7600 Liberty Rd Powell, OH. Interment following at Kingwood Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call Monday 4-7 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High Street (1/2 mile south of 270) and 1 hour prior to the service at Grace Powell Church.
