Lt. Colonel Carl F. Hopp, 81, of Fortson GA, passed away on May 26, 2024, in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services to be announced at a later date according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
He was born June 27, 1942, in NYC, NY, son of Herbert K. Hopp and Edith Hopp. He grew up in NYC and attended Concordia Prep in Bronxville NY.
Carl graduated from the Citadel in 1965 after which he received his Masters in Public Administration from the State University of New York in 1966. He served 20 years in the Army including a combat tour in Vietnam from 1968-69. He retired from the Army as a Lt. Colonel, but continued to work for nonprofits and government contractors over the years.
Carl will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, loyal friend, and man of strong faith. He was generous with his time to the church and charitable organizations that meant so much to him. If you spent any time with him, you were likely to hear about his military service, his interest in cars, his dogs, his love of trains, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Anne Russell Bowers Hopp, son, Eric (wife Brenda), and daughter, Maryanne (husband Russell). He was especially proud of his grandchildren: Christian, Jonathan, Ethan, Justin, Abbey and Emily. He also loved his fur babies Oliver, Pippa, Terra, Chloe and Carlie.
The family is appreciative of the love and support of his many friends. In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, ECO or the Harris County (GA) Humane Society.
