Frederick F Pordum of Buffalo, NY died August 24, 2023. He spent his life in service to others in the greater Buffalo community. He was a Lackawanna school teacher and football coach where he coached future Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski. He served on the City of Lackawanna Board of Supervisors and then was elected to the Erie County Legislature. While serving as an elected official, he worked on cleaning up both air and water emissions at Bethlehem Steel. He was vital in removing phosphates from the cleaning solutions to preserve the waters of Lake Erie. He obtained federal grants to clean up the Lake Erie waterfront. He was the campaign coordinator of NY gubernatorial candidate Howard Samuels and Al Gore’s 2000 presidential run. Fred assisted in bringing Off Track Betting to Erie County and was integral in ensuring the Buffalo Bills would remain in Buffalo. After leaving public office, Fred worked at Erie Community College where he oversaw the development of a new campus. He later accepted a position working as an administrator for the Erie County Health department.
Fred is survived by his three children Pamela Pordum, Dr. Laurie Pordum, and Dr. Frederick Pordum II, his sister, Virginia Antos, and six grandchildren.
