Annette D. Goodwin, widow of the late Gaffney H. Goodwin of North Charleston, South Carolina, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014. Annette was born to the late John J. and Jennie W. Douglas. She was preceded in death by two older brothers, John H. Douglas and Harold A. Douglas. Annette is survived by her stepsons, Marcus Goodwin (Denise) of Detroit MI, Andre H. Goodwin (Krista) of Southfield, MI; stepdaughter, Lydea G. Fulwylie of Detroit, MI; brothers, Hillery P. Douglas, Sr. (Yvette) of North Charleston, SC, Henry R. Weston, Sr. (Conyers) of Halifax, VA, Kirby G. Douglas, Sr. (Deloris) of Hopkins, SC and Luther W. Douglas (Naomi) of Lincolnville, SC; sisters, Jannette D. Felder (James) of Columbia, SC, Gloria D. Roper (Clinton) of James Island, SC, Doristine Primus of Lincolnville, SC and Geraldine D. Williams of Ladson, SC; sisters-in-law, Carrie B. Douglas of Columbia, SC and Aundria G. Douglas of Charleston, SC; and a host of step-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, family and friends. Annette was christened early in life at Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. Annette continued to be an active member of the church, serving in many capacities until her failing health would no longer allow her to attend in person; but she was always there in spirit. Annette attended the public schools of Charleston, SC, where she graduated from Bonds-Wilson High School in 1961. Annette then continued her education in Columbia, SC at Allen University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree, specializing in science and mathematics. Upon graduation, Annette began a very fulfilling career in education as a teacher at Bonds-Wilson high school from 1965-1970 and Garrett High School from1970-1979. Annette was then promoted to being named the Community School Director of Adult Education at Garrett High School, a position in which she served from 1979 to 1982. Annette advanced her education at The Citadel, earning a Master of Education degree with a concentration in administration and supervision. This degree allowed Annette to leave the classroom and move into school administration as an assistant principal at Toole Middle School from 1983-1985. After leaving Toole Middle School, Annette expanded her career in school administration, being appointed principal of Ronald E. McNair Elementary, 1985-1987; Brentwood Middle, 1987-1994; and finally, Baptist Hill High School, 1994-1999. Annette retired in 1999 from administration, but not from education. Annette continued as a teacher, mentor and educational consultant in various schools in the Lowcountry. The wake services for Annette will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Wednesday. December 31, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Annette D. Goodwin’s funeral services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Ladson, SC.
