D.D. Cayce III, 89, of Hopkinsville, KY, died at 4:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Nathan Brown and William Turner officiating. The body is being cremated. Burial of cremains will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home. A native of Christian County, he was born Oct. 28, 1924, the son of the late Kenneth Odin and Kate Quarles Cayce. He was president of Cayce Yost Seed Co. A World War II veteran, he served in the Navy aboard the USS Shoshone. He was educated at the Military College of South Carolina, the Citadel, Emory University, the University of Kentucky and earned his master’s degree from the Lexington Theological Seminary. He was well-known for his knowledge of the life and works of Edgar Cayce who was a Hopkinsville native, noted worldwide as a clairvoyant, and was a lifetime member of the Association of Research and Enlightenment, the Edgar Cayce Foundation at Virginia Beach, Va. His achievements and contributions to the community were vast and included membership in the First Christian Church where he was an elder, former board chairman, Sunday school teacher, trustee and church historian. In addition, he was well known as a founder of the Pennyroyal Area Museum, having served that board for three terms as president. He was also a board member and founder of the Christian County Water District and had served the Hopkinsville Board of Education and was later on the board of the Christian County Board of Education. He was a member of the West Fork Pond River Watershed Conservation District and member and president of the Christian County Genealogical Society. He was a member of the Athenaeum Society, was a Gideon and was a member of the Christian County Historical Society as well as historical societies in other states. He was a world traveler. He was a member of a number of local and state seedsmen’s associations and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, The Filson Club, was a Magna Carter Barons descendant and a member of the Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the colony of Virginia, Bench and Bar and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.. His wife, Martha Jean Taylor Cayce, died in 2013. A son, D.D. Cayce IV, also preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Andrew Cayce, Athens, Ga.; a daughter, Mrs. Scott (Mary Bess) Ross, Hopkinsville, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
