POWERS, George Entered into eternal rest on June 11, 2006, Colonel George W. Powers, United States Army, retired, husband of Debbie Stokes Powers. Residence, Lorida, Fl. Relatives and friends of Colonel and Mrs. George Powers, USA, retired, are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in The Summerall Chapel, The Citadel, Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Eleven O’clock. Interment will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL. George W. Powers was born in Bronx, NY, February 17, 1945, the son of Warren Powers and Virginia Roeder Powers. Colonel Powers was commissioned in the US Army upon graduation from The Citadel class of 1966 as a distinguished graduate. His 26 year career included assignments with the 81stArmor Division, 11thArmored Calvary Regiment, and Tactical Officer and Assistant Professor of Military Science at The Citadel. Following graduation from Command and General Staff College, he was assigned to the Military Police School as Chief of Enlisted Training Developments. Colonel Powers commanded the 759th Military Police Battalion and served as the Ft. Dix Provost Marshal. He commanded the 42nd Military Police Group and served as the Director of Plans and Support, Counter Drug Enforcement Officer of the Secretary of Defense. Colonel Powers’ awards include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, and the Haitian Distinguished Service medal. Surviving are his mother of Ocala, Fl.; his wife of Lorida, FL; 2 daughters, Wendy Powers of Charleston, WV, and Cari P. Crosby and her husband John of Lafayette, IN; 2 sons, Captain Brian Powers and his wife Peggy of Ft. Hood, TX, and Barry Powers of Baghdad, Iraq; his sister, Bonnie Niemeyer of The Villages, FL; and 4 grandchildren, Madison and Christopher Powers and Emma and Samantha Crosby.
