Judge Augustus S. Hydrick, age 82, died March 13, 2003 at the Hermitage at Cedarfield. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Farrar Hydrick. He was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, graduated from The Citadel in 1942 and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. U.S. Army. He was a veteran of World War II; was a tank company commander in the European Theater of Operations; and was a veteran of D-Day, June 6, 1944 landings in Normandy, France. Among his many military decorations are the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. After the war he joined the U.S. Army Reserve and retired in 1969 with the rank of Colonel. Judge Hydrick graduated from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1949 and was employed by the National Board of Fire Underwriters until he went into the practice of law in 1969. He was elected by the Virginia General Assembly to be a Judge for the Fourteenth Judicial District where he served until his retirement in 1984. As a member of Trinity United Methodist Church he served on the Administrative Board, taught Sunday School in the Mastin Class for over 40 years and was Church Lay Leader. He was past president of Virginia Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Judges Association, former member of the Judicial Council of Virginia and a member of the South Carolina and Virginia Bars. Judge Hydrick was a former Adjunct Professor of Business Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and is a former Vice-President of the Robert E. Lee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Graybil Hydrick; his son, A.S. (Chip) Hydrick Jr.; his daughter, Cheryl H. Guedri; his son-in-law, P. Christopher Guedri; three grandchildren, Heather E. Hydrick of Portland, Ore., John B. Hydrick of Richmond, Ross Guedri of Richmond; and a great-granddaughter, Zoe Thiel of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Mary H. Greene or Orangeburg, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Louise G. Hydrick of West Columbia, S.C. and Frances F. Tapscott of Raleigh, N.C.; and also two stepdaughters, Julie Graybill of New Orleans, La. and Dr. Lyn Graybill of Atlanta, Ga.; and a brother-in-law, O.P. Farrar of Clinton, Miss. The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road on Sunday, March 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. Burial will be private at Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue on Monday, March 17 at 1 p.m. Following the service, there will be a reception for family and friends in the Fellowship Hall at Trinity. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Trinity Foundation, Trinity United Methodist Church or the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad.
