James Postell Jervey Jr., 88, of 1000 Live Oak Drive, 304 Walsh Building, Orangeburg, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at the Methodist Oaks. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, with the Rev. Chuck Owens officiating. Burial will be in the Columnbarium at the church. The family will receive friends after the service. Mr. Jervey was born Oct. 21, 1913, in Charleston, a son of the late James Postell Jervey and Leila Britton Jervey. He attended Charleston Public Schools and graduated from Orangeburg High School. A graduate of The Citadel, class of 1936, he served in the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theater in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was past senior warden of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, past exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge, past master of the Equality Masonic Lodge, member of the York Rite Masonic Order, the Omar Shrine Temple, the Edisto Shrine Club, the Sons of the American Revolution, V.F.W. and American Legion. A past president and honorary member of the South Carolina Florist Association and the Association of Citadel Men. Survivors include his wife, Lois Myers Jervey; two daughters, Mary (Tom) Scarborough of Orangeburg, Jinny L. Jervey of Greenville; one son, J. Frank Jervey of Columbia; grandchildren, Jinny Bundrick of Columbia, Max Jervey of Orangeburg, Catherine Scarborough of Stanton, Va. and Mark Jervey of The Citadel, Charleston; one great-granddaughter, Madelyn Alyssa Jervey of Orangeburg.
