Elric Simons Pinckney was born October 10, 1918, the son of Elric Simons Pinckney and Susan Robinson Allan Pinckney. He grew up in Charleston, was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, attended local schools and finally entered the Citadel, where he was a founding member of the Citadel Yacht Club. In Aiken Mr. Pinckney was active in the First Presbyterian Church and in many civic and charitable organizations, serving as president of the Aiken Chapter of the American Red Cross as well as the United Way. Additionally, he was president of the Aiken Association of Life Underwriters and the South Carolina State Association of Life Underwriters.
