John Wayne Lloyd was born November 3, 1954 to Willie Ervin Lloyd and Norvelle Stutts Lloyd in Charlotte, North Carolina and died October 31, 2011. He was the youngest brother of five surviving siblings who cherish his memory. His brother and sisters are Cathy Kulla, (husband David Kulla), Ruth Ward, (husband Jim Ward), Minnie Dukes, (husband Dr. Lee Dukes), William Lloyd, (wife Carol Lloyd), and Willie Merrell, (husband Benny Merrell). His surviving children are Daniel Patrick Lloyd (age 18) and Sarah Colleen Lloyd (age 15) who live in Hof, Germany. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who love him dearly. John is a graduate of Harding High School, Western Carolina University, and earned his Master’s Degree from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He served in the United States Army in the Intelligence Department as a language specialist liaison in West Germany. John also served in the United States Navy as a communication specialist in Brandywine, West Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina. After his naval service, he made his home in Charleston where his beloved children were born. John had a passionate love of history, especially events centered around the Civil War. He became a tour guide in the Charleston area to share this passion with others. He had a remarkable knowledge of historical facts and delighted in conversing on this subject. Many hours were spent with his dear friends, Bitsy Andrews and Mary Boyd Hart, of Charleston, reminiscing about the historical events of the area. John will be remembered for his love of family and amazing knowledge of world history, U.S. history, and religions of the world. He was a proud veteran and loved flying the U.S. flag. John’s fondest times were spent at family gatherings sharing stories and enjoying home-cooked food.
