Lt. Col. Michael Charles Stannard, U.S. Army Retired, 67, of Tyngsboro, MA, died September 12, 2010, at Lahey Clinic, following a long courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Doreen (Dionne) Stannard. They celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary this year. Born in Bar Harbor, Maine, Michael was a son of the late Pascal Charles Stannard and the late Frona (Anne) Tupper Stannard. He was a 1965 graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina and wore the ring proudly. Michael’s active duty military service included Instructor at Command and Staff Training, Ordinance Advisor serving two tours in Vietnam, DCASR Boston, as Industrial & Management Information Specialist and Company Commander of the 123rd Maintenance Battalion in Nuremberg, Germany. Following active duty, he served in the Army Reserves as a maintenance Officer and Director of Enlisted Courses. His many military awards include the Bronze Star. Prior to his retirement, he was a Marketing Manager with Conmed Corporation in Utica, NY. He was also a member of Annawon Lodge, A.F. & A.M., in West Haven, CT for many years. He was an avid reader, Army NASCAR collector, cigar aficionado and gourmand. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Derek Charles Stannard of Dracut; a daughter, Jessica Greenhalge and her husband, Bailey, and a grandson, Michael Greenhalge, all of Lowell; a sister, Jane Dexter and her husband, Merritt of West Haven, CT; a brother, Roger and his wife, Lee of Brandon, FL; as well as many devoted aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. The Stannard family would like to express their gratitude to those doctors, nurses, and assistants of Lahey Clinic who provided exceptional care throughout his illness. STANNARD — Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, Saturday from 2 until 6 PM. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on December 20, 2010 at 9 AM.
