Dr. Melvin L. Becker, age 85, of Winter Park, FL, passed away on Oct. 5, 2009, following a six month illness. He was born in Savannah, GA, raised in Palatka, FL, attended The Citadel and graduated from Washington University School of Dentistry. He did his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following the Army, Dr. Becker practiced oral surgery in Miami for over 30 years and donated countless hours of community service, including the Orlando Free Clinic after his move to the Orlando area in 1999. Widowed twice, he is survived by his third wife, Jean of Winter Park; children Dr. Daniel (Madaline) Becker of Charlottesville, VA, Judith Becker Worsley of Warwickshire, England, Glenn (Cindy) Goldsmith of Miami, Amy (Ray) Bennett of Orlando and Darcy (Kirk) Young of Casselberry; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; he is also survived by his brother Mathis (Linda) Becker of Tampa; and sister Claire Rosenberg of Casselberry and hundreds of friends and associates whom he admired and entertained. His humor, generosity, and courage were lessons to all of us. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 2:30 p.m., at Congregation of Reform Judaism, 928 Malone Drive, Orlando.
