Michael Thornton Page, age 61, of Rome, GA, passed away Saturday evening, September 19, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Page was born in Anderson, SC on August 9, 1948, son of the late Eleanor Thornton Page and the late James William Page. Mr. Page was employed with Milliken and Company in various management positions from 1977 until his retirement in 2005. His work in the textile industry included roles with the Carpet and Rug Institute, the Home Furnishings Council, and the Hotel and Motel Association. Prior to his death, he was affiliated with Riddle and Page Office Products in Rome. Mr. Page was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rome. He graduated from Darlington School, Davidson College, and The Citadel. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Page was a member of the Rome Rotary Club and served as Chairman of the Darlington School Board of Visitors. He also served on the Ben Franklin Academy Board of Advisors and was past Chairman of the Board of Trustees for LaGrange Academy. He also served as Chairman of the Board for the United Way of Floyd County and the Rome Area History Museum. In addition, he was a House Parent for both the Methodist Children’s Home and Thornwell Home for Children. Other memberships include the Cum Laude Society, Kappa Alpha Order, the Dan Hanks Heritage Society for Darlington School, Sons of Confederate Veterans, the League of the South and the Georgia Tech Club. Survivors include his wife, Mary Agnes Shaughnessy Page; two sons, Wade Hampton (Bo) Page, and his wife, Heather, and Davis Alexander Page. The family will receive friends at Henderson and Sons Funeral Home on this evening from 5 until 8 pm. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 6 pm in the Morris Chapel on the campus of Darlington School. His pastor, the Rev. Jeff Chadwick will officiate. A reception will immediately follow the memorial service in the Dodd Dining Hall at Darlington School. On Friday, September 25, 2009, a memorial service will be held at 11 am at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church in Hartwell, GA. Dr. Allen Stewart will officiate. Following the service, his remains will be interred in the Northview Cemetery in Hartwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Darlington School, 1014 Cave Spring Road, Rome, GA 30161-4700, to the Thornwell Home for Children, P. O.
