JOHN CLEMENETE SIRICA (71) On March 23, 2008, after a long illness, an artist, passed away peacefully at his home in Winthrop, Massachusetts among his children. He was born in New Britain, Connecticut and grew up in Waterbury, Connecticut. He was a graduate of The Citadel, where he majored in education and received his master’s degree from George Washington University in intaglio printmaking. He was the Artist-in-Residence and served on the faculty at the National Collection of Fine Arts now known as The National Museum of American Art. He was also the president of Printmaker’s Workshop, Ltd. From 1966-79 he concentrated on printmaking, teaching and art organizations. His prints are in collections at the Museum of American Art, The Library of Congress and many more. Not wanting to be an institutional artist, in 1979, Mr. Sirica relocated to Winthrop, Massachusetts, where he was inspired by the ocean and is reflected in his later works. He was an early member of the Boston visionary cell. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne while serving his country. Survivors include his son, John T. Sirica of Washington, DC; daughter, Shelly Sirica Richards, husband, Mark and children, Alexandra and Walsh Richards of Washington, DC. A funeral service will be held at The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada St., NW, Washington, DC on Tuesday, April 8at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Odyssey Healthcare Foundation, 400 Blue Hill Dr., Suite 3B, Westwood, Massachusetts 02090.” Tags: 1958
