The Citadel Alumni Association Contributes to Scholarships

The Citadel Alumni Association capped off a banner year of giving at its annual membership meeting. The Association will contribute $900,000 to support college operations, CAA legacy cadet and need-based scholarships, and enhance The Citadel’s Service to Country Tuition Scholarships and National Service Room and Board Scholarships for ROTC cadets.

LTG Michael Ferriter, USA, Ret., '79

Ferriter’s distinguished 35-year military career included command of IMCOM in 2014, overseeing all Army bases worldwide with a $12B budget and 73,000 personnel. His assignments spanned combat and leadership roles, including Deputy Commander for Advising and Training, United States Forces–Iraq, OPERATION NEW DAWN; Commanding General of the U.S. Army Infantry Center and Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, GA; Commandant of the U.S. Army Infantry School; Deputy Commanding General (Operations) of XVIII Airborne Corps and Multi-National Corps–Iraq; and Regimental S-3 (Operations), 75th Ranger Regiment in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope.

His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Legion of Merit (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal (with five Oak Leaf Clusters).

On June 19, 2018, Ferriter became President and CEO of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus, Ohio.

  • On October 23, 1983, a truck bomb destroyed the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, killing 241 American service members. Among them was 1st Lt. Charles Jeffrey Schnorf, The Citadel Class of 1981. We remember his sacrifice—and that of all who gave their lives that day—on this solemn anniversary.
