The Citadel Alumni Association Contributes to Scholarships

The Citadel Alumni Association capped off a banner year of giving at its annual membership meeting. The Association will contribute $900,000 to support college operations, CAA legacy cadet and need-based scholarships, and enhance The Citadel’s Service to Country Tuition Scholarships and National Service Room and Board Scholarships for ROTC cadets.

  • "One of the greatest snowstorms in Southeastern United States history occurred February 9-11, 1973.  This storm dropped one to two feet of snow across a region that typically sees only an inch or two of snow per year.  New all-time snowfall records were established in a number of locations including Rimini, SC with 24 inches; 18 inches in Darlington, SC; and 16.5 inches in Macon, GA.  Snowfall in Wilmington, NC reached 12.5 inches with 7.1 inches recorded in Charleston." - weather.gov
  • The late Colonel Louis S. LeTellier, SCM, was born on February 8, 1887. 
He joined The Citadel faculty in 1908 as professor of drawing and in 1920 became the head of the Department of Civil Engineering, which received accreditation by the Engineers Council for Professional Development in 1939. LeTellier was appointed Acting President of The Citadel upon the retirement of General Charles P. Summerall in 1953. When General Mark W. Clark became President, LeTellier was appointed Dean of the college. He retired May 1, 1954, ending 46 years of service to the college. 

LeTellier was the father of former CAA President, the late MG Carroll LeTellier, USA, Ret., '49.
  • The Charleston’s Francis Marion Hotel opened on February 7, 1924. Some of its famous guests include Elvis Presley, Babe Ruth, Bob Hope, Doris Day and Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy. In 1965, after his retirement as The Citadel’s president, General Mark Clark and his wife lived in the hotel’s penthouse until 1975. In 1989 after Hurricane Hugo, Mayor Joe Riley, ’64, persuaded local banks to contribute to the hotel’s restoration as a landmark in the City of Charleston’s revitalization.

This special graduation rate of $400.00 is available through Commencement Day in May. However, to ensure your cadet/student receives their membership items with their classmates and be announced as a Life Member at Commencement, payment must be made in full by March 15. Memberships paid after March 15 may not have items ready for pick-up before or be announced at Commencement.

  • The Citadel Gospel Choir was founded on February 5, 1988.
  • This week, members of The Citadel Class of 2027 were sized for their class rings, marking an important milestone in their progress toward wearing The Ring. Cadets will briefly see their rings in April to confirm fit and engraving; however, rings will not be received or worn until Parents Weekend in October.

Important notice for parents and guardians of the Classes of 2028 and 2029: The Citadel Ring is a significant financial investment, and costs are most likely to continue rising as the price of gold increases. We strongly encourage families to begin saving now. Waiting until your cadet’s junior year can make this expense much more difficult to manage. Planning ahead will help ensure your cadet is able to participate fully in this beloved tradition.
