Willliam Waight Elliott, II (Bill), age 83, of Beaufort, joined the Lord on June 25, 2024. Born in 1940 in Beaufort to William Waight Elliott and Martha Lawrence Van Landingham, Bill was born and passed away in his childhood home on Battery Creek (a place that was always special to him). He cherished his time on the river catching whatever he could find. Like his father, he loved hunting, and bird watching and could swap stories for hours on hunting and fishing in his beloved lowcountry.
Bill graduated from Beaufort High and moved on to the Citadel where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering and is now in the Hall of Fame for his outstanding performance in the Long Jump in Track and Field. He then joined the Marines and served time in Vietnam.
He was fortunate enough to find a career that suited his interests and personality as a Harbor Pilot and, for 40 years, piloted the big ships in and out of the Charleston Harbor. One pilot described him as “a great man who is respected by all of us at the Pilot office”.
He was a wonderful man; full of knowledge and love and compassion for his friends and family. He is survived by his wife Paula, his 3 children: Bill Elliott (Margaret), Stephen Elliott (Carrie), and Maggie Dickinson (Justin), and his 6 grandchildren: Grayson Elliott, Georgia Elliott, William Elliott, John Elliott, Abbey Schad, and Jackson Dickinson.
A funeral service will be held at St. Helena Anglican Church on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 10 a.m. with burial in the Churchyard.
