CHARLOTTE – William Billy Smith Newton, 48, of Charlotte, died January 10, 2004, in Boston Medical Center from Amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder. He was born April 28, 1955, in Union, S.C., a son of Margaret Williams Newton of Union, and the late William Pitts Newton. Mr. Newton graduated in 1977 from The Citadel and received a master’s in accounting from the University of Georgia in 1979. He had been in private practice in Charlotte with William S. Newton, CPA, PA, since 1987. In addition to his mother, Mr. Newton is survived by his wife, June Ayer Newton; a sister, Margaret Ann Newton of Union; a sister-in-law, Patty Ayer of Thomson, Ga., and his father-in-law, J. Sidney Ayer of Bamberg, S.C. There will be a funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004, at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Charles D. Page and the Reverend Tom Crow officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel.
