William S. Heaton Sr. MR. WILLIAM S. HEATON, SR. November 10, 1943 – March 11, 2008 ANDERSON, SC – Mr. William Smith Heaton, Sr., age 64, husband of Velda Arnold Heaton of 3885 Old Portman Road, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. Born in Anderson, SC on November 10, 1943, Mr. Heaton was a 1966 Citadel graduate, and a graduate of the University of Arkansas earning a master’s degree in engineering. He was a retired Major with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. Serving in many stations throughout the world including the 373rd Titan Missile Squadron. He was a launch officer with the 4th Airborne Command and Control Squadron as part of the Strategic Air Command. He was also a logistics planner with the B-1 Bomber Program at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota. After his military career, he was an Adjunct Professor with Limestone College. Mr. Heaton was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Anderson. Survivors include his wife, Velda Arnold Heaton of the home; son, William S. Heaton, Jr., and his wife, Jill of Middletown, MD, daughter, Leah H. Ayers, Dacula, GA; step-sons, Joseph B. Lusk and Robert L. Lusk, both of Anderson, SC; step-daughter, Rhonda S. Bolton of Anderson; brothers, Ralph B. Heaton, Jr., of San Francisco, CA, Edwin R. Heaton of Greenville, SC and Robert W. Heaton of Anderson, SC; previous wife and mother of his two children, Gail K. Bensten of Prosperity, SC; five grandchildren, Parker K. Moore, Alec K. Ayers, William S. Heaton III, Nathaniel D. Heaton, Samuel K. Heaton; step-grandchildren, Brittany, Anna, Tyler, Stephanie Lusk and Amanda, Jonathan and Bowen Bolton. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph Beecham Heaton and Mary Amilee Smith Heaton and his previous wife, Susan Campbell Heaton. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 1:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Tom Turner. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
