William Stuart (Bill) Bruening, 64, retired Air Force Lt. Colonel and certified public accountant, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Vallejo, Calif., on Oct. 9, 1949, he graduated from St. Andrews High School in Charleston, S.C., in 1967, The Citadel in 1971, and the University of West Florida in 1995. His 23 years of distinguished service as a fighter pilot included combat missions in Southeast Asia and tours in Italy and South Korea, where he flew F-4s and F-16s. His last duty assignment was Deputy Commander for Operations, 79th Test and Evaluation Group at Eglin Air Force Base. After retiring from the Air Force in 1994, he worked as an accountant for the Florida auditor general, as senior manager of O’Sullivan Creel LLP in Destin, Fla., and most recently, as account manager of Chesser & Barr, P.A., in Shalimar, Fla. Bill thoroughly enjoyed convertibles, airplanes, the beach, and most importantly, spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend, and he will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Sandy Bruening. He is survived by his wife Mimi (formerly Wooten) Bruening of Niceville, Fla; his daughter Alexis Stuckey, her husband Bill and their children Cooper and Maguire; his son Stuart Bruening, his wife Devin Bruening and their children Jackson, Delaney and Coleman; his brother Paul Bruening; and his sisters Barbara Davis and Sandy Young. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Niceville, Fla., on Tuesday, December 31st.
