Funeral services for William Rountree “Billy” Brown, Jr., 76, of Twin City were held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Baptist Rest Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Mike Gray and Elder Gary Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Twin City Cemetery. He died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Twin City, attended Gordon Military Academy in Barnesville, The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and, after serving in the US Navy, returned home to join the family business, Brown Brothers, in Twin City. He was a scout master of troop #105 for 10 years, served as a Twin City Councilman for 25 years, was a member and past president of the Twin City Lions Club and served on the Board of Trustees of The Bethany Home Inc for 45 years. Mr. Brown was a lifelong member of Baptist Rest Primitive Baptist Church serving as both deacon and church clerk and was preceded in death by his parents, William Rountree Sr. and Henrietta Matthews Brown and brother Jack Brown. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nancy Riggs Brown of Twin City three sons, W. R. “Buck” Brown III of Twin City, Jimbo Brown and Matt Brown (Sophia) all of Bryson City, N.C. one brother, Charles Henry Brown of Millen six grandchildren, Will Brown, Hannah Brown, Carson Brown, Callyn Brown Abbey Brown, Sarah Kate Brown and other extended family. Pallbearers were Jimmy Greenway, Mark Brown, Brig Tison, Ridge Allen, George Rountree and Johnny Scott. Honorary pallbearers were Past and Present, Board of Trustees of The Bethany Home, Greg Johnson, Loy D. Cowart and Dr. Gary Branch.
