He graduated from Clinton High School in 1964, whereby he then attended The Citadel graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He later served in the United States Navy as a LTJG on the USS Camden during the Vietnam war 1968-72. In 1973, he created and developed the first ever floating restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina, affectionately known as The Scarlett O’Hara, Billy also received a Masters of Divinity in 1977 from the Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. He served as a Presbyterian minister for 25 years and later retired to Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina to do what he loved most, namely, to comfort all living things by creating and sharing in his beautiful dream through his writings and music. He wrote and published, “The Holy City” a musical novella performed with his dear friends in Charleston. Throughout his life journey he was surrounded by his loving family and friends who were so blessed by sharing in his light. Most of all, he especially loved being a father and grandfather. Always saying, how much he was learning from the children who usually sat on his lap to accompany him on the piano and share in his song. His gentle loving manner and kind wisdom blessed all of our family with many happy gatherings. Billy was a kind and loving person, always giving solace and comfort through his music, many projects and talents. His most recent creation was “Kayak Kite Fishing”, both a musical and self-pioneered innovative fishing technique that he lovingly labored to reflect these economic times. He hoped to comfort “anyone’s soul”, as he would often say. Billy will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
