William “Bill” McKinley Hales III, 80, of Carrollton, TX passed away on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. A US Army veteran, Bill was a Citadel graduate (Class of 1963). He served with the 5th Infantry Division at Fort Carson. His later service included contributing freely of his time for nine years as a Carrollton Reserve Police Officer. Bill had a career spanning 30 years in the insurance industry, working for Allstate as an accounting manager, Members Insurance Group as a Vice President, IBMG as a Vice President, and retired from the Texas Department of Insurance in 2006. Bill was a leader and a man of compassion, kindness, and strength. He was a loving husband who reveled in life, and he was always quick with his unending sense of humor to make those around him laugh and smile. He enjoyed his service to his country and community as was known for his contributions to the insurance industry. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1941, he was preceded in death by his parents, Col. William McKinley Hales, Jr. and Florence O’Kane Hales; son, USMC Sgt. William McKinley Hales IV; and brother, Richard Hales. Bill leaves to cherish many wonderful memories his devoted wife, Carolyn A. Hales of the home; son, Army Lt. Col. Kenneth Hales of Hoschton, GA; daughter-in-law, Terri Hales Moss of Hoschton, GA; grandchildren, Ann, Caroline, Robert, and William Hales; sister, Kathleen H. Cavender of Mandeville, LA; brother, John (Michele) Hales of Northridge, CA; sister, Mary Elizabeth (John) Boone of Gilmer, TX; sister, Julie Hales of Kailua, HI; brother, Thaddeus (Kim) Hales of Little Elm, TX; sister-in-law, Eileen Hales of New Freedom, PA; and many nieces, nephews, and special neighbors. Visitation will be at Good Shepherd Catholic Community Church of Colleyville, TX at 10:00 am on Monday, January 24, just prior to funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, TX.
