Col. William M. Crabbe, Jr. USAF, Ret., of Summerville, entered into eternal rest on the morning of September 9, 2010, Col. William Mervin Crabbe, Jr., USAF (Ret) widower of Jean Lamond Crabbe of Summerville, SC. The relatives and friends of Col. William M. Crabbe, Jr., USAF (Ret) are invited to attend The Liturgy of Christian Burial in Summerall Chapel at the The Citadel, Monday, September 13, 2010, at two o’clock. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL. Col. Crabbe was born on September 8, 1925 in Stamford, CT the son of William M. Crabbe, Sr. and Alice Clarke Crabbe. He was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1950, and received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from The George Washington University. He retired after 33 years of service in the Army Air Corps and USAF. Col. Crabbe was a WWII Veteran and a combat veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He was a former Commandant of Cadets at the Citadel and President of Oak Ridge Military Academy, in Oak Ridge, NC. He is survived by his sons: Lt. Col. William Mervin Crabbe, III, USAF Ret. and his wife Ellen Runyan Crabbe of Columbia, SC, Mark MacGregor Crabbe, MD and his wife, Linda Swain Crabbe, MD of Sumter, SC and Lt. Col. Matthew Lamond Crabbe, USAF Ret. and his wife Wendy Wintermute Crabbe of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren: Heather Ann and Rachel Elizabeth Crabbe, Christina Lynn Kennelly, MD and her husband Brian, Lauren Jean Neville and her husband Ryan, Caroline Leigh Crabbe and Lisa Joy Crabbe, Christopher William Crabbe and Laura Lee Crabbe; one great-grandchild, Camden Allison Crabbe; niece, Jeanne McLendon Few and her husband Dr. Theron Gary Few of Birmingham, AL; and nephew, Alexander Sandy McLendon and his wife, Nancy McLendon of Perry, GA.
