A graveside service for William “Billy” Leggo Boyd III, 85, of Columbia, will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010, in Elmwood Cemetery. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home of Ford and George Bailey, 1330 Devonshire Drive, Columbia. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Boyd died Thursday, September 30, 2010. Born in Richmond, Va., he was a son of the late William L. and Frances Ford Boyd. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on the USS Laffey and USS Dayton. He attended The Citadel, the University of Virginia and the University of South Carolina. He retired as owner of NAPA Auto Parts of Columbia and Lexington. A member of First Presbyterian Church, he was also a member of Forest Lake Club, The Palmetto Club and Pine Tree Hunt Club. He loved life, his family and his friends. All those he touched were truly blessed to know him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Burgess Boyd; three daughters, Ford Boyd Bailey and husband, George, of Columbia, Cary Boyd Hobbs and husband, Brad, of Lilburn, Ga., Virginia Boyd White and husband, Ray, of Atlanta; grandchildren, Darnall, Mary Bond Bailey, Boyd and Will Hobbs, Raymond, Frances and William White; stepson, Tripp Penninger and wife, Kristin, of Columbia; step-grandchildren, Mary Kate and Elizabeth Penninger; brother, Darnall Whitmell Boyd and wife, Susan, of Columbia; nephew, Taylor Fair Boyd of Columbia; his dog, Rip.
